I usually love small sub shops that aren't chains, but wasn't completely impressed by this one. The bread seemed fresh and pretty good which was a plus, but nothing special about the toppings. I got the turkey avocado, and it was pretty bland. My wife got the French dip and it was pretty disappointing. Bread wasn't toasted, just seemed to have a little layer of meat and melted cheese. Also, I'm not going to really knock them on this, but it would have been nice to know it was cash only. They had an ATM but it's like a paid an extra $2 for my sandwiches because of the fee.

We love Phil's subs.. We're vegetarian so we always get the 700.. It's always so yummy and the staff are always so nice! We don't live in Forest Grove but make the stop as often as we can.. Keep up the great work!

I don't know what's the big deal with there subs.....it's boring and bland. ...the cashier said our subs are better then subway. I don't agree with the cashier, subway sandwiches are a lot better!

Ohh Emm Gee! They finally have an ATM! :) I get the same sandwich every time I go in, the bread is delicious, they pile on the meat, and despite it being weird, they also slather on the cream cheese, just they way I like it! If I want a single meal I get a super small, if I want two, I go with the small. These subs are packed and quite large! Soup and salads are always fantastic! The grilled meat always makes me want to try a different sandwich... Because it smells soooo yummy! Love the fam & friend photo collages on the wall.. Phil, Maryl, and the kids are great and super friendly! Nothing bad to say about the place! Oh, and they have a lil play kitchen and lots of lil toys for kids to play with! Means, the kiddo is busy playing, so I don't have to speed eat before she get antsy! They also have a couple of high chairs! :)

If there's ever a chance you find yourself over here in The Grove and are looking for a great meal that's served up fast and friendly, you should stop by Phil's 1500 Subs. Their bread is baked fresh daily and their sandwiches come in standard 6 inch and 12 inch sizes. I rarely order the same thing when I go in. I simply go in and let the atmosphere wash over me before I decide on what to enjoy. Although I have repeated my orders, no one sandwich is by far better than the other one because they are all really good. If you're looking for something other than a sandwich, don't worry, they have you covered. They always have a pot or two of soup available as well as a large selection of fresh salads. Phil and Maryl are known to be great supporters of this community that they have been a part of since 1989, so it's only fitting they make the best sub sandwiches in The Valley. Before you order, don't forget to check out the weekly specials. If you have a competitive spirit, they even have something to appeal to that side of your nature. Walk in, walk to the counter and tell them you're there for the Phil Challenge. If you can eat their 7.5 pound (yes, the size of a newborn baby) sandwich in 40 minutes or less, you'll become forever immortalized on their Wall of Fame. If you try it and fail, don't worry, there's a consolation prize...your name and picture will grace their Wall of Shame! Win or lose, challenge or no challenge, you'll always be treated like family and fed like royalty. Stop by and give them a try, I'd be willing to bet you won't be sorry.

We love love love Phils! The sandwiches, soups, & potato salad are always delicious. If I had to base my review off of the staff & the food, they would get 5 stars without a doubt. However, the dining area is beyond disgusting. I couldn't imagine letting my kids touch the sticky, broken, old toys in the corner that look like they've never been disinfected since they were purchased. Everything in that corner just needs to be thrown away. The high chairs from the 90's are just as bad as the toys. Old, gross, and obviously not taken care of. The lobby needs a total makeover. You'd think that with a place that is so well loved, someone would want to take the time to make the place look as good as the food tastes. The place deserves it and so do the loyal customers.

Really great subs. My grandson who is 9 says they are the BEST in the WHOLE WORLD. Now, he might exaggerate...but they are good. I like the Viking or the Warhead. No debit cards for Mr Phil, but atm in dining room makes purchase easy. A small sub is big enough for me. A big sub feeds 2 or even 3. Next to Safeway. Lots of parking.

Look at the options here! A private owned sand which shop, pretty rare these days. Great staff, very friendly, and they really care. Anything with turkey is great! You can have it your way. Easy location, right next to Safeway.

Meh. I don't see what the appeal is. What I had was bland, boring and generic. Not worth the price for what it was. The employees seemed to be goofing off a little too much and sorry to beat that drum, but who seriously expects to stay in business with cash only. If your food isn't phenomenal where it speaks for itself and that part doesn't matter, then you might want to consider biting the bullet and getting a card reader.

Phil's is the best, great sandwiches using great ingrediants. Monthly specials are awesome. If you are lucky enough to come on the right month and get the salmon special, it is very good. I would give him 5 stars if he puts in a keg of GUINNESS!! cheers!!

Phil's 1500 subs is the best thing that's ever happened to Forest Grove. They use the freeeeesssshest ingredients and their bread is out of this world. The Carow family rocks.

my sub was ok.the veggies where a bit soggy. the bread has the mass produce taste. the meat was great...just get a new baker.

I really like the sandwiches, here. My wife is from the area and when we visit from California, I have to eat there. I have never had a sub short on filling, meat and flavor. Broke a star off because the cash only is annoying. Also, a rack of hot sauces would be a lot of fun.

This place has been in Forest Grove forever and it's the ONLY place to go for a good sandwich or sub. Their bread is fresh and amazing and every sandwich is so good! My go to is a genoa salami, cotto and capicola, provolone and the fixins (lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar, herbs) , the prices are great and quality is awesome. Only complaint I have is that it's cash only.... Come on Phil!

Well after several false positives from the GPS and online (closed, closed, farther away than the map said) I was ready to go to Subway. I saw Phil's on the GPS and checked online to see if it was still open. It was, and not far from the hotel, so I called in an order to go. Kinda surprised it was going to be 20 minutes, but whatever. Went over and got my order that was ready to go. Phone service was kinda bland, but the counter service was very good. I got the Viking sandwich, cup of chili, and potato salad. The chili was fair at best, a bit (lot) too tomatoey with a bit of heat that came from the lone jalapeno slice I found in it.. Their idea of a cup is more like a bowl so I only ate half. The potato salad was just barely fair. Not much more I can say about that. But the sandwich was very good. Nice fresh bread and more than enough meat. I could only finish 2/3rds of it. Nice crisp vegetables as well. Overall not the best sandwich shop I've been to (check out Max's in Auburn, CA or Scott's Subs in Modesto, CA), but definitely on the recommend list.

My fiance has talked about this sandwich shop for quite a while. One day while I was at work, he happened to come in to scout Phil's for me (I can be pretty picky with sandwich shops). He mentioned that he enjoyed his sandwich even though he didn't have a chance to eat it right away. Today we were trying to decide on where to have dinner and he mentioned Phil's. I had been wanting to try it for a while so I agreed that Phil's would be a good choice. The atmosphere was pleasant, nothing too fancy. The decor is nothing to get excited about but they do have some old arcade games near the door. It was clean and they had several boards listing monthly and weekly specials. The guys behind the counter know sandwiches! They were extremely nice and helpful guiding us through the menu and assisting us with our selection. They were patient too, as I was having a hard time pinning down exactly what I wanted. The wait time was appropriate and the price was right. The large sandwich that my guy got was less than $10 and it was a lot of sandwich. They only take cash so make sure you come prepared. They brought our sandwiches out to our table and we promptly dug in. There were a lot to these sandwiches. You definitely get your moneys worth at Phil's. I only got a small sandwich and it was more than enough. Their lettuce isn't my favorite but next time I think I will see if I can substitute sprouts. My fiance got a Cajun meatloaf sub and it was very well executed. They use a chipotle mayo and grill onions and peppers and it comes together very nicely. They offer a punch card here as many monthly and weekly specials. (My favorite special was the Friday special: "Wildcard" - if you were wearing shorts you got $1 off your sub!) If you are out and about in Forest Grove, you should definitely stop in for a sandwich if you are feeling hungry!

Phil's is the best sub shop in Forest Grove. My favorite is the turkey with cheddar on white bread. Ask for the chipotle mayo!

Phil's Subs is truly the best sandwich shop you will ever come across. There are so many sandwich possibilities, soups, salads and even tasty cookies. Do not be afraid to try something new and create your own sandwich. There is an ATM located inside the shop, which if you use you are compensated with a free drink. If you want to try the food challenge, it's tough, but beware, you could end up in the Hall of Shame. This is a great family place, with awesome food.

Had the BLT today , mmmmm. The bread is fresh and soft, bacon has alot of flavor they put way more meat then subway. I will be going back soon. The cookie wasn't soft and I like soft ones. But it's not called Phil's cookies either.

Very good cold subs! Cash only, but you can get something small from safeway and get cash back, or they have ATM's on site. $9.75 for their large italian-type sub with olives and peperoncinis added on. I'd come back again =]

Stopped into Forest Grove and needed a quick lunch. What a disappointment. I ordered the small grilled Flank steak, my husband ordered the large pastrami with sauerkraut. The pastrami was tasty but the flank was a bit dried out. The sandwiches had so little meat, we had to combine all the filling that was in both halves into the bread of a 1/2 sandwich to get more than just bread in each bite. So unsatisfying. For $8, a small sandwich should have more substance. These were mostly bread. Not a good value at all.

I grew up in Forest Grove, and even though I've since moved away, Phil's will always be my favorite sandwich place. I go back every time I visit FG. #1200 on wheat with swiss is my go-to. Always delicious! And their various soups are all amazing as well! (The chili is hit or miss... always tasty but sometimes a little heavy on the tomato)

I live in Hillsboro and every chance i get to the Grove. I try to get to Phils and man they know how to serve their customers. I always get their meatball sub and im still usually hungry so i get another large sub usually a warhead and my god it is so good. I am so done with Quizno's and Subway and going to Phils instead.

"Subzilla" - Eaten by "Max Carnage" This formerly undefeated sandwich finally met its match. It was a delicious undertaking. The quality of ingredients surpassed any found at a national sandwich chain and was a pleasure to eat...what could be tasted past the first few bites at least. The 8 meats, 3 different cheeses, wonderfully awesome cooked bacon, and standard veggies and condiments in combination made for 7lbs of yum. This challenge is one that "Max Carnage" would happily take on again. We loved Phil's 1500 Sub Shop! Phil and his staff were super friendly and welcoming and so were his customers. This family owned establishment has got to be the place to come for good quality food any day of the week. With delicious sandwiches, great prices, and people who seem like family, Phil's is a place we put high on our "Must Visit" list. youtube.com/watch?v=Ifp_…

We really like this place. The locals come here for a quick and affordable easy lunch or dinner. The subs are a good size and they are flexible on your change-up's! The little strip mall it is in has some Crunchy Oregon folks who hang out there (the Safeway pipes music out and has tables to encourage loiters!) but don't let the worn in look of the buildings fool you. Not bad at all.
